A LOOK BACK AT 2010 HIGHLIGHTS

    Cooking Classes:  Christmas Tamales

We have added several new and fun activities at our Resort this year.  One very special event this December was a tamale making class.  Living in south Texas, we thought it would be a lot of fun to show everyone how to make traditional Christmas tamales.  Tamales are a traditional Christmas dish in Mexico and are a special treat for those of you that have never had the pleasure of eating one that was homemade.  Yummy!  Thanks to Hope and her sister for hosting the class and giving such great instructions.  The ladies who participated had a great time and lots of "good grub" to eat and take with them at the end of the class.

            Hay Rides and Christmas Caroling

Another new event this year was hay rides.  Our first hay ride of the year was done on the night of December 22nd with the added feature of Christmas Caroling.  We had two groups travel in the hay wagon and others who chose to walk along behind to help knock on doors and sign Christmas carols for all in the Resort to enjoy.  It was a special treat for those who were unable join in the fun or homebound for any reason.  Those at home were grateful for the effort made by our singers to stop by and wish them a Merry Christmas with joy and song.  After several hours of caroling, everyone in the Resort was invited to join the group for hot chocolate, cookies and other treats.  It was a very special evening.  We will do that one again and have a few more hay rides planned for later in the season too!

                                 Ladies' Christmas Tea

A long standing tradition at the Resort is our annual Ladies Christmas Tea.  Lots of delicious food, fun and a gift exchange made the event as memorable as it is each year as old and new friends join together in fellowship and fun.  Audrey and her staff once again made the decorations and the event just perfect.

        Annual Resort Christmas Dinner

Christmas would just not be "Christmas" at the Resort without our annual Christmas dinner.  Audrey and her activities staff and some volunteers cooked a fantastic meal for over 300 people.  And if you can believe it, everyone was served in less than 25 minutes.  The meal was delicious.  She did the same for over 200 at Thanksgiving.  She is truly an amazing activities director.  There is none better in the entire Rio Grande Valley.  And if that were not enough, she is putting on the New Year's Eve dance and breakfast which follows for about 500!  e have a week to go and nearly 450 have already been sold!  Most other parks are not planning such a special bash with a live band and no other park has our large floating wood dance floor, full acoustics, stage for a full piece band and air conditioning to boot.  It is no wonder that our ticket sale numbers keep climbing; one neighboring park that has no such New Year's Eve event booked 5 entire tables.  Other parks are doing the same.  We must cap the event at 500 people; so if you don't have your ticket yet, you need to get one.  See you there.

                      Dancing at It's Best!

We have one of the largest dance programs in the Rio Grande Valley.  It starts with our Thursday Night dances to live bands on our beautiful 20,000 S.F. dance floor in a ballroom that has air conditioning, full acoustical padded walls and a huge stage to accomodate full sized bands and other entertainers.  We also have line dancing classes.  New this year is our ballroom dancing class thanks to Dan and Carol Iwanka.  We will have some big bands play and entertain everyone too.

At our Resort, we host one of the largest square dancing programs in the entire country.  Square dance caller, Daryl Lipscomb, teaches beginning, advanced and intermediate dancing.  Below are some photos for you to enjoy:
